dozens of magnificent King and Queen costumes will parade before a panel of judges, alongside performances from the Something Positive Dance Troupe, as well as some great Calypsonians from the Caribbean, including Baron, Stalin, Lord Nelson, Scrunter, Sugar Aloes and Singing Sandra. They will be backed by the Sunshine Band, pannist Dane Gulston, Golden Harps Steelband, the Rhythm Masters Iron Section and much more

J’Ouvert(joo-vay) in French meaning daybreak, began in

Trinidad in 1937. Today J’Ouvert is also celebrated in New York as a predawn festival on Carnival day. In keeping with tradition, steel drums are the only forms of music that will be played. Revelers in J’Ouvert wear costumes also, but unlike Carnival day, J’Ouvert costumes are inexpensive and are often creations that mock political issues, celebrities, and prominent events.
The predawn celebration begins at 2am at Grand Army Plaza by the Library, travels through Flatbush to Empire Blvd, and ends on Nostrand Avenue and Linden Blvd.

The parade begins at 11am and ends at 6pm.
Popular singer Wyclef Jean will join six other grand marshals on September 6, to kick-off the official

parade of floats down Eastern Parkway. They include Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Congressman Charles Rangel, Senator Charles Schumer, Dr. Edison O. Jackson, president of Medgar Evers College and Dennis Walcott, NYC Deputy Mayor.

Seventy floats and thousands of colorful masqueraders are expected to follow.
Hundreds of dedicated volunteers & sponsors make Brooklyn Carnival happen as a celebration and gift to the community. Get ready to enjoy yourself.

All concerts take place at the Grounds of Brooklyn Museum of Art, 200 Eastern Parkway at the Washington Avenue Entrance. Doors open at 7PM and all nightly shows begin at 8PM. Daytime events are FREE to all children, with a suggested donation of $2 for adults.
